Upclose & Personal: DG De Gregorio Bravo Cajon

Cajon is the symbolic instrument of the black Peruvian community . Like many other South American percussion ,  its a substitute for African drums , usually prohibited to the slaves brought to the new world. The name describe what it is : A big box. Its is said that the first Cajones were the boxes of the fruit pikers   in the coast region. Also in Cuba where the Cajon exist and its played in certain styles in Rumba : the legend has it the fish crates were played as percussion. Since then , the Cajon has been improved , until it got a conventional shape and construction criteria . Its usually comes as a wooden rectangle about twenty inches tall and twelve inches in depth and width . The front face (Tapa) and the back face are different from the sides; the Tapa is much thinner than the rest and the playing surface, while the back has a hole, for sound projection.
The feature that differentiates the various type of Cajon, is the snare mechanism

Founded in 2002 by drummer / percussionist Paolo DeGergorio, DG DeGegorio has established itself as one of the premier artisan Cajon makers in Spain.

As well as fixed snare-system with two steel-core strings.

The Bravo is finished with a double coating of Saverlack water-based lacquer, and the front-plate comes standard in either Makassar or Stunning Red Makassar .
